Along the bottom edge is are two neat tears running from the U in Massachusetts and the O in Boston to the bottom of the sheet

but appears to have been carved from what I think must have been a lumbar vertebrae

the cottage is very much a character in this story

its definitely pretty old

then the ground and (what there is of a) garment were painted/stained green
